TOGA VIRILIS’ SS21 Collection Will Make You Want to Dress up at Home

Yasuko Furuta‘s Tokyo-based label TOGA VIRILIS comes back strong for Spring/Summer 2021, presenting the “Cities of the Interior” collection that’s packed full with contemporary interpretations of the Wild West.

Following on from last season’s goods, which was equally inspired by the West and spotlighted a collaboration with SUICOKE, TOGA VIRILIS continues to deliver standout looks that are flamboyant, playful, and so brilliantly fun.

This time around, “Cities of the Interior” forms part of the brand’s “Inner Series” — a collection of clothes that can be worn as both pajamas and for dressing up. Inspired by a photobook of building ducts and vents, connecting the outside world with the inside, and another book on James Lee Byars, the collection looks to focus in on a world that’s changed this year, one which has resulted in many of us living indoors in our own little cities.

Drawing from Byars’ time spent in Kyoto in the ’60s, the collection is vivid and full of flair. Introducing gowns, dresses and suits in rayon linen fabric, alongside staples such as Western-influenced embellished shirts, belts, and shoes, SS21 might be TOGA VIRILIS’ strongest season yet.

Standouts include a palm tree-printed shirt in red with a contrasting button placket and collar, as well as the blue shirt with pocket fringe detailing and puzzle pieces on the left-hand side. Minimalism comes in the form of a cream double-breasted blazer fitted with leather shoulder pads, while the expected level of extravagance can be seen elsewhere in pieces such as a full yellow flower-adorned ensemble.

“Cities of the Interior” also brings new footwear, most notably a pair of black leather pointed boots with a thick heel, a pair of black-and-tan chrome-embellished slides, and a pair of loafers with chrome details on the reworked traditional tassels.

TOGA VIRILIS’ “Cities of the Interior” SS21 collection can be viewed in the lookbook above, while a selection of new-season pieces is available to purchase on its website now. Expect more to drop online and at stockists worldwide soon.
